A failed hydrostatic test means your plumbing system is losing water but does not reveal the exact leak location. Opening an entire slab to find one bad segment is expensive and rarely covered by your insurer. Herndon McFarland Plumbing has run static and isolation testing across DFW since 1995. We narrow whole-system failures to the single line at fault.

Once a system fails a pressure check, our static plumbing test work begins. We stop testing the entire network and isolate the faulty segment. Our team focuses on locating and documenting the failure, not repeating a pass or fail you already have.
It involves capping sections of the drain line and filling them one at a time. This method turns a failed result into a located one.
We separate the main sewer run from the branch lines so that the failure appears as a single length of pipe. Our sewer line isolation testing keeps excavation limited to the failed pipe.
We narrow the loss to a defined section, often a few feet of pipe. That precision is the heart of focused leak detection and repair and protects your slab and budget.
Once a segment is flagged, we send a camera through to confirm the defect: a crack, a separation, or channeling. This pairs visual proof with the test result.
Older DFW homes often have cast iron that corrodes from the inside. We check whether a segment can still hold a test. Where a line has failed outright, we move toward repair or replacement.
We record the isolated results, the location, and the condition of the failed line as a clear package for your claim.
A failed test shows the plumbing leaks but does not reveal which line gave way or whether your insurer will cover it. We run this testing across DFW because who pays depends on Texas insurance rules, not the pipe.
Most Texas homeowner policies cover water damage only when it is sudden and accidental, such as a burst pipe, and exclude damage from gradual leaks and seepage. An adjuster cannot apply that test to a result that says only the system fails. They need the specific line that gave way and the nature of the failure.
That is the gap a whole-system hydrostatic test leaves open. It fills the entire drain, waste, and vent network at once and reports only if it holds water or loses it. When it loses, the failure could be in any branch under the slab. This leaves the claim stalled and no map of where to dig.
Isolation testing closes that gap. We cap and test segments one at a time until the losing section reveals itself. Then we document the location and findings as evidence that an adjuster can act on. That record turns a failed test into an approved, segment-specific repair for insurance approval.
Kristin Atkinson found us while selling her home after a buyer’s plumber reported a pipe separation and quoted a large repair for a leak that may not have existed. A second plumber wanted $600 just to run an isolated test. Her insurer sent her to us.
“Our insurance company set us up with McFarland for the isolated testing and they did a very thorough job and found the true leak…”
Her story is a case for isolation testing: a separation is not automatically a leak, and only a segment-level test can settle it. We found the real failure, priced the fix, and got it done in time to close. Read Kristin’s full Google review.
Angela Fleming’s 69-year-old home had a sewer system in serious decline. Before any digging, the failure had to be mapped. Testing showed multiple leaks, and entire sections, more than half the line, were too far gone in cast iron to hold a test. Only methodical, segment-by-segment work produces that map.
“…after extensive testing to identify multiple leaks and entire sections (over half) which could not even be tested due to the extent of cast iron disintegration…”
Testing that thoroughly tells you whether to repair a segment or replace a line. It kept Angela’s project scoped to what the pipe required. The same approach guides every test we run. Read Angela’s full Google review.
We have served the DFW metroplex from our North Dallas base since 1995. The McFarland family still runs it today. Our licensed crews work under Texas Responsible Master Plumber license RMP35786.
If a pressure test fails, the next step is to find the responsible line before breaking ground.

We can pair it with our hydrostatic workflow, scope a reroute or repipe, or move to slab leak repair once the segment is confirmed. You get documented findings and written pricing first.
The usual triggers are a failed hydrostatic or pressure test, an inspection that flags a possible separation, a home sale or insurer that wants proof of the exact problem, or signs of an under-slab leak with no source. If you know something is leaking but not where it is leaking, this test will tell you.
We cap and fill drain segments one at a time and watch the static water level, isolating the main sewer run from the branch lines until the losing section stands out. We confirm the defect with a camera.
A hydrostatic test fills the entire drain, waste, and vent system and only tells you whether it holds water as a whole. Static and isolation testing pick up from there, dividing the system into sections so we identify the single segment at fault and avoid opening the rest of the slab.
It depends on how many segments fail and the condition of the pipe. A single defect in an otherwise sound pipe is a candidate for targeted repair, while widespread failure in deteriorated cast iron warrants replacement. We base the recommendation on the test results and put it in writing.
TX policies generally cover sudden and accidental water damage but exclude gradual leaks, so an adjuster needs to know which line failed and how. A whole-system failure does not answer that; an isolated, documented segment does. That is why this testing often determines if a claim moves forward.

From slab leaks under the foundation to sewer line repipes, every job is diagnosed, documented, and done right. A look at recent work across North Dallas.
Excellent customer service, very friendly staff from the person taking the call to the staff fixing the repairs. Very trustworthy company. Shaun explained the step-by-step process and provided very fair prices.
Their positive, upbeat, anxious-to-please attitude made the whole process the very best it could be! All of the employees were a pleasure to work with. I highly recommend Herndon McFarland.
Trent and Reggie were the most professional associates entering our home. They treated our home with respect as if it were theirs. We will use this company again because of them and our experience.
